As you have undoubtedly heard, in the Chinese Zodiac, it is the Year of the Dragon.
This is actually a Balinese dragon, but apparently dragons are not very good at geography and he was not aware of this. I am told that economics and accounting are their true fortés.
It should have occurred to me that dragons, like turtles, are reptiles. I’m not sure how I missed that. John thought turtles were amphibians, but clearly they are reptiles. Wikipedia says so, so it must be true.
Who's steering this thing??
The turtles and sheep have spent their week locked up in my cabinet. I simply could not handle the mayhem and needed a little peace in the studio, if only for a few days.
The door is usually closed. I opened it to give them a breath of air and because the glass glare interfered with the photo. They were not pleased with me.
This weekend I figured that things had calmed down and I could let them out. I am guilty of many such errors in judgement. The turtles and the dragon took to each other right away.
A slightly dog-eared (or cat-eared, actually) creature, but a dragon of any sort is a useful thing, when you're a turtle.
Balance. Very important.
I should have realized right-off what was coming.
"Dragon! Run away!" "Dragon? There hasn't been a dragon in these parts for a thousand years...." "Run! No, the other way!" "*That* way! Run!" "Faster, faster!" "Mind the edge of the taaaaaaaaaabllllllleee.......!"
It didn’t look good, at first. But the sheep have been in this house longer and they do possess a little knowledge that the turtles don’t, namely that in every house lives a bigger (vegetarian, fruit juice-breathing) dragon.
Equator, the Vegetarian Dragon.
Sometimes it’s not whom you know, but what you don’t….
